TURKANA BOY CRANIUM Future Vintage Phygital Collectible

$495

The cranium of the Turkana Boy was the first piece of the skeleton that was found by Kamoya Kimeu on the west shore of Lake Turkana.

The lower jaw had incisors, canines and first and second premolars partially erupted, with third molars absent. The upper jaw still had milk teeth canines, with most of the permanent teeth partially formed. The features matched the tooth development of an 11-year-old boy.

The skull and jawbone, by contrast, are more primitive in appearance. This fits the generally accepted view among paleoanthropologists that different parts of the human body evolved at different rates, the body achieving fully modern proportions long before the head.

The KNM-WT 15000 skeleton still had features (such as a low sloping forehead, strong brow ridges, and the absence of a chin) not seen in H. sapiens. However, there are significant defining characteristics, such as a bigger brain size (880 cc). The nose is projecting like those of humans rather than the open flat nose seen in apes.
