We collaborate with the most advanced scientists, researchers and technologists in their fields on everything from fibers to packaging. We also work with forward-thinking factories and manufacturers throughout the world who believe in treating their people to our stringent ethical standards.

Every one of our products has been thoroughly researched—a process that can sometimes last years. From inspiration to design, our intricate graphics and limited cut and sew pieces employ the printing techniques of some of LA's finest creatives (over 40 years of expertise).

They say 'Knowledge is Power.' At blkburd genes, we say 'Application is Power.' We've incorporated a QR code into each of our products, providing insights into the history, ideation and conception of every product for years to come.

Most brands aren't willing to commit to such an expensive and arduous process, and that's what separates us from other design companies.

No. This is the first time that this type of application has been used by a fashion brand. 

Our approach to design has been meticulously thought out, and we wanted to reflect that by using QR code technology to educate our customers about the world’s history. It took our scientific creative and tech team over seven months to research, create prototypes and write the history represented by each design.

Our operation warehouse and most of our products are made in Los Angeles, California. This makes our logistics process easier and helps us reduce our carbon footprint as a company. We globally source our PFD, naturally-dyed fabrics and technology due to the scarcity, nature and origin of some of these innovations. 

It was crucial for us to produce everything in one place, and that is why we chose California — for technology, labor law compliance, and a range of factories with the latest eco-certifications. We also chose this region to partner with factories and people who share our ideas and are ready to incorporate the latest designs, innovations, technologies and educational processes. They are ready to experiment with us, so this partnership is key for us.

We work with like-minded manufacturers we can partner closely with and visit often. Location

is important for us to ensure our travel footprint is minimal. We also want to ensure the high

standards of staff welfare and output quality.

We source from factories who only use natural dyes created from natural resources such as plants, fruits and vegetables. This is how we achieve our rich hues and tones — from Aged Turkana Brown to Aged Shela Crème tone. 

Our T-shirts are knitted in the USA from 100% cotton jersey.

We currently use two types — organic cotton and a recycled cotton blend made from a mix of organic cotton and recycled cotton items.

Yes. It holds the transaction certificate from the Control Union, meaning that the yarn is

processed according to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

We recommend dry cleaning your blkburd genes ™ tee and when using a washing machine , wash inside-out using a gentle wash cycle, as it can increase the longevity of the garment.
